Brad Lomax and the Water Street Complex in Corpus Christi
This
address to thousands of people has meant great seafood, and top notch
service for a long time.
Brad
Lomax and Jim Lago have taken local Corpus Christi residents on a walking
tour of downtown Corpus Christi, January 2004.

Back
in 1995 when the internet was a mystery in CC and only Blake Farenthold
understood it, we published an Ezine called the Corpus Christi Ezine.
In the restaurant section called We Built This City on Guacomole,
this was the first restaurant reviewed.
Water Street Seafood Company
309 N. Water Street
Tel. 882-8683
Water Street
is in my opinion the showpiece restaurant in Corpus Christi, and possibly
South Texas overall. There are actually several components to the dining
opportunities involving Water Street. There is the Water Street Oyster
Bar, the Seafood Company, and the cousin with the grill and rock &
roll stage next door, the Executive Surf Club. Today, I am focusing
on the Seafood company.
The best restaurants have everything going for them from the service,
to the food to the decor. Water Street is no exception. From the uniquely
creative wall upholstery to the color coordinated table cloths, everything
fits. The service is consistantly competent and friendly, but not intrusive.
The food is seemingly always well prepared and presented with style.
My current favorite item on the menu is the seafood gumbo. I grew up
in heavy cajun country, and for my money this gumbo is the best I have
had west of Houston. It invariably includes fish, shrimp, the occasional
oyster, and of course the okra with rice blended in. Damn, it is good!
Other appetizers include light and tasty batter fried calamari and crawfish
tails, which are always excellent. Another lunch favorite is the fantastic
shrimp and pasta salad.
The entrees feature fresh fish, shrimp and other crustaceans from the
Gulf of Mexico, and are prepared in a variety of ways. Fresh mahi is
always a winner, as are the farm raised catfish and other "local
catch of the day" favorites. Counselor Farenthold, our cyberspace
proprietor here at the E-Zine, prefers the #3 combination or "Cholesterol
Express" at the dinner hour.
If you live in town or are visiting and are looking for good seafood,
set aside some time for the Water Street Seafood experience. The combination
of courtesy, quality, and warm ambiance make for a memorable meal at
lunch or dinner.
When
people started paying for internet consulting and sites, the Ezine faded
onto floppy disks in dusty drawers. Even a mention in the Texas Monthly
Texas on the Internet couldn't keep it going. Water Street goes on.
